"Decent tourist hotel, but not the best for travelling business people unless they are getting around without a car. " (97733699)

Tidy hotel.Staff good but room not the best. Clean though.

car parking additional £8 in private hotel car park ! cheap, but why pay at all then staying there. Area not particularly car friendly either.

It had smoking rooms but could not ensure that one would be given

Poor conditions and over priced for car parking (£3 per night in glasgow marriott).Limided menue ,drink price high in comparison to othe locations

"I upgraded to a superior double room for the castle view but there was not much more value for the extra money and the castle view was not great. As it was the weekend the street was noisy till about 3a.m with stag and hen parties, this would have been helpful to know before booking this location. Parts of the room were dusty and over the 3 night stay the same parts were not dusted by housekeeping. Room was comfortable and a decent size but breakfast should be included in the price as it was £12.95 for a breakfast. Also they advertise as having satellite tv in the room but we only had one news channel. Overall a little dissapointing but a good location for sightseeing." (99672302)

Good Location, very easy to get to all attractions Good sized room

No air con, room was very hot at night. Room was dusty and not cleaned thoroughly. Very noisy outside throughout the night and early morning

The view of the castle was incredible, and the location was ideal for exploring the city.

There seemed to be a lot of hen/stag parties in this area - it's just as well we'd had a long day or we wouldn't have had any sleep!

The hotel location was superb. The hotel had an excellent and modern decoration. The room was large, clean and quiet.

There was no mini-bar in the room.

"Very pleasant staff, good value for money. Excellent location - castle view and right on the grassmarket" (99765763)

modern and stylish. Liked the luxurious touches - chocolate, bath products etc.

The lift in the hotel was too small!

The close proximity of the hotel to the Royal Mile is great. The hotel and staff were great.

"The hotel was in an excellant position for the town, we could come and go easily. The room was expensive and only had a tiny view of the castle. We had to pay extra for our breakfast which was very poor value as my daughter and I did not want to eat a great deal at that time of day. The staff were helpful and friendly On the whole the hotel felt very boring. It felt like a business hotel rather than one to stay in to celebrate hogmany" (99807005)

I do think that breakfast should be included with the room price

"We had a very pleasant time. The meals available in the evening were very good and very good value for money if eating from the set menu. Throughout our stay the service was brilliant from all staff." (3305004011)

Good location, extremely helpful staff. Comfortable room.

The hairdryer provided was difficult to use due to its distance from the mirror and the strong pull of the curly flex. This was a bit annoying.

"This is a well located hotel and is clean and friendly but nothing special. Given this the price of £110 room only mid week is pricy. Reception area is a bit tatty and the layout of the restaurant is bizarre but the next door sister hotel's 5th floor restaurant is very good. Note to hotel - it is unhelpful for business travellers to split the restaurant bill into food, drinks and tip!" (3305260492)

    Good location, sister hotel restaurant

reception is a bit tatty, forgot wake up call

  • 7/10 Christine (Mature couple)

"The hotel is poorly serviced by public buses and the hotel staff were unable to furnish us with information about the public transport service. A bus map would have been very helpful. Generally the hotel was very pleasant and comfortable. An enjoyable end to a lovely holiday in Scotland." (3304721233)

Nice to have a bath and a shower. Lovely biscuits on the refreshment tray. Thick bath robes.

Not enough towel rails. Cups too small. The kettle is a little inaccessible for tea making.

"Apparently the room does not have air conditioning just an air circulating system!! (which didnt work). There was no hot water in the morning contrary to the claim of the hotel staff." (3304832589)

The room was large and well appointed with a side view of Edinburgh Castle. The well lit bathroom had a separate shower cubicle and bath.

The air conditioning did not keep the room at an ambient temperature. There was no hot water to shave or shower with in the morning.

I can't think of anything we would have wished to know in advance and we would certainly want to return to Edinburgh and the Apex again one day." (3304076060)

The room was well furnished and comfortable. The bath/shower room very good. The large bed very comfortable. The staff were excellent, especially when we ordered food at midnight!

"I wanted to know the hotel's precise location, and whether there was a hair drier. Both questions are answered on the website. Also, of course, price of the room There were no unpleasant surprises, and the stay was as smotth-running and comfortable as expected" (3304065078)

Size and comfort of the bed Good variety of lighting for lounging/working/reading in bed Availability of ironing board, and hair drier Comfortable bar sofas, and interesting bottled beers

The basin in the bathroom is rather small, and it's difficult to fit the kettle under the tap, and extremely difficult to place one of the tall thin glasses under the tap. I'm surprised that I didn't crack one

  • 10/10 Harvey (Mature couple)

    from Chatham , United States;US on  November 1, 2005

"We enjoyed our stay at the Apex very much. The room was clean and very well put together. We had a meal at the retsaurant and the service was good, as was the food (my wife loved the lamb). I would have liked to have known the additional rate for internet service in advance, as it did add another 10% to the cost of the room. However, the hotel was very well appointed and we would return when we next visit the area." (2794337)

Room was clean and everything in it worked. It was a fairly large room and was conveniently located. Great shower - water was hot and fixtures were well designed and pleasing to the eye.

I was displeased that the internet service was not included in the room rate - there was an additional charge which was quite costly (15 pounds a day).

the modernity of the room and the bathroom

Better lighting and magnifying mirror in the bathroom – it is very difficult to apply makeup or shave with the existing fixtures. Include a selection of healthy food in the restaurant like, for example, sugar free cereals for breakfast, wholemeal and whole grain breads, selection of salads. More channels on television, like for example Euro Sport – I wanted to watch the US Open (tennis) and was very disappointed when I discovered that the hotel does not provide any sport satellite channel.

from Fair oaks , United States;US on  September 11, 2005

"I would stay here again because of the location and modern conveniences in the room. It was more enjoyable to be in old town than in new town where the streets are crowded with shoppers and stores mostly found at home. The Apex has a nice view of the castle and you can walk out onto the old streets and enjoy the architecture. Even though I could feel the bed springs in the hotel room, I was mostly too tired from site seeing to lay awake because of the springs and many other hotels seemed to have the same problem during our two week holiday in the UK and Paris. Also, there are many good restaurants within walking distance." (2533295)

Location in old town, close to various tourist attractions, yet the hotel interior and conveniences were very modern.

The bed. The springs are uncomfortable. A better thicker mattress pad might help or a new mattress.

from Bury st edmunds , United Kingdom;GB on  August 28, 2005

"The hotel was pretty much as I expected. A decent middle range hotel. Everyone was friendly, room was a good size and appeared to be very sound proof (or maybe there were no rowdy people coming back late and crashing around as has been my expereince before!) which meant a peaceful stay. Accommodation comfortable, bathroom facilities excellent (big towels!), little extras like having bottled water in the room do make a difference. Also was very pleased I could order breakfast in my room and have a leisurely morning. No comlaints!" (2576694)

Friendly staff even when things were busy, as I was staying during the Festival.

We were staying during the festival and found it extremely convenient for all the venues and events - only a couple minutes stroll to most places, including the castle. The staff were exemplary - genuinely friendly and helpful. Beautiful meal in the Agua restaurant." (2622897)

    Spacious, well decorated room.

The power shower had very little power!

"I think we had the information we needed, and we had a very pleasant stay." (2553669)

Walking distance to castle and city, nice square outside. We also liked the restaurant/bar and sofa-areas. And the morning paper!

The quality and variety of the breakfast buffet (the bread was dry and not best of quality, same fruit 4 days) - toast was OK.
